To our club members and our local community,
The recent tragedy that has occurred in neighboring Berkeley Township regarding the suicide of a freshman girl attending Central Regional High School has left a profound sadness in our local community and the story behind it has made international headlines. A large percentage of our current membership lives in or around Berkeley Township and we have a number of club members that are either currently enrolled at Central Regional High School or are Central Regional alumni. The club is always here for its members and members of our local community. Chess and community are the core identities of the Toms River Chess Club and in times of tragedy in our community it is necessary for the club to reach out. Bullying and suicide are two silent epidemics that not only affect us here locally but affect children and adults alike around the globe. If you are in a vulnerable situation you can always reach out to the club at TomsRiverChess@gmail.com. We will do whatever we can to help or direct you to other resources that will be better able to help you. Our members and local community are and always will be family. If you or anyone you know is feeling suicidal please call the national suicide and crisis hotline at 988. Our hearts go out to the victim and her family. Sincerely, The Toms River Chess Club |
